Proverbs 31:26 (erv)
God spoke the world into existence using words. He made us the only living creatures that get to use words to communicate. I think it’s so important that we understand how powerful that is; what a gift it can be, and also the harm it has the potential to do.
I’m not sure we always understand the influence we have; our words reach our families and friends, but they also touch our co-workers and our communities. Social media allows them to cross borders and to be “heard” all over the world.
I know that I personally don’t pay enough attention to words that flow so freely from my mouth, and often times, I regret it. Even more often, I don’t even realize what I’ve said. Because I believe that we have a responsibility to use our words the way that Jesus used them when He was on earth; with love and intention, I’ve been attempting to make a more conscious effort to pay attention to the words I speak. It’s not easy, and I fail often, but I also remind myself over and over again that I was created to do good with my words.
Write about a time that the words of someone else lifted you up and encouraged you. After you’re done, use that for encouragement in doing the same for someone else.
For God to guide you in using your words for good in the lives of others today.
