Isaiah 55:8 (icb)
The Lord says, “Your thoughts are not like my thoughts. Your ways are not like my ways.”

God has incredible things in store for us, not just in eternity, but here in this life as well. He also has great challenges and chances for us to grow. We don’t know what those things will be, but we can be certain that God has a plan for our lives and a perspective that we couldn’t possibly see or understand right now.
Focusing on that truth, the truth that we don’t know everything, is so crucial in remaining steadfast in our faith. It’s incredibly easy to call God’s goodness and character into question when things come up in our lives that we weren’t expecting or never wanted to happen. It’s also easy to wonder where God is when the things we’ve been hoping and praying for don’t come to fruition.
But if we choose to focus our minds on the fact that God knows better than us, we’re free to look for his blessings and lessons in everything. Just because it’s not what we prayed for doesn’t mean it’s not a gift, and just because it’s something we’d never pray for or even wish on our worst enemies doesn’t mean it’s not an opportunity to strengthen our faith.
When we become aware of God’s constant presence and work that He’s doing in us and through us, we’re more likely to recognize the things, people, relationships, and circumstances that He’s chosen to use in the process. We’re able to participate in the process of our sanctification.
Getting caught up in our own thoughts and plans comes naturally, and once we’ve attached ourselves to those things, and formed expectations around them, it’s hard to step back and realize that maybe we’re wrong, maybe we don’t know everything, maybe there’s another way. But if we believe that God is who He says He is, and He does what He says He does, then we should also desire and seek His ways and thoughts over our own.
I don’t know about you guys, but I screw things up royally a lot of the time. I’ve proven time and time again that I don’t know what’s right or best. And God’s proven again and again that He does. So, today, and every day, I’ll continue to focus on looking for His ways and thoughts instead of my own.
Write
Take some time to reflect on what areas you find yourself being closed off from seeking God’s thoughts and ways. In your journal, write them down and make a note of some of the ways you can intentionally start to look for God’s thoughts in those places.
Pray
For any of your desires for control to be replaced with the desire to seek God’s thoughts and plans.
