What Your Heart Really Wants & Açaí Smoothie Bowl

Psalm 37:4 (nirv)

Find your delight in the Lord. Then he will give you everything your heart really wants.

I’ve looked everywhere for it. Relationships, vacations, jobs, stores, movies, and countless other places. I’ve taken the really, really long way around to find this very simple truth; nothing brings happiness except Jesus.

For so long, I thought I knew myself and knew what I needed. Even today, I still fall into the trap that if I just book my next trip, or find that perfectly fitting Lululemon jacket (but if you want to try, this one is my favorite), I’ll finally be happy. But that won’t do it.

When I’m reading Scripture, one of the things that helps me is to highlight verses that stand out to me, and then underline specific words in that verse that bring meaning to it. In this verse, I underlined the word really, because it shows that major contrast between human understanding and God’s understanding. I think I want a Range Rover, but God knows that it won’t bring me any more joy than I already have.

If you scroll through social media, or open any personal development book, you’ll see something encouraging you to either be yourself, find yourself, or both. You don’t have to look far to find journal exercises or meditations that help you discover what you want out of life. But Jesus has a different way, and a different path. He tells us to seek Him and find our joy there. Then He’ll take care of the rest. He’ll be responsible for bringing us what our hearts really want, even if our minds don’t know it yet.

Isn’t that a huge relief?! We don’t have to keep beating our heads against the wall, trying to figure out who we are, what we were made for, what we want, or what we need. The Creator of your soul already knows exactly what you need, and he’s given you a direct route to get there: Himself.

What are some of the reasons that you can find joy in the Lord? If you’re struggling to get started, think about the foundations of our faith: salvation, the ability to speak to God anytime we desire, the Holy Spirit living in us, God’s love for us. If you’re still struggling, open your Bible to any page, and you’ll see many, many reasons.

For a heart that’s filled with joy in the Lord.
