True Freedom & Pancake Kabobs

Zechariah 2:4 (erv)

He said to him, “Run and tell that young man this:

‘Jerusalem will be a city without walls,

because there will be too many people and animals living there.’

The 4th of July is a day we celebrate freedom in our country. It’s a day where we take time to appreciate the removal of the boundaries and limitations that used to rule our nation. Freedom is such a blessing that many of us take for granted far too often.

And that freedom that we enjoy is wonderful, but it’s not true freedom. The Bible talks about a time when we’ll experience real freedom; where there will be no walls. Walls are a source of protection. They contain the people and things living behind them. In some ways, the walls can be a blessing; like if there’s evil on the outside of them.

But it’s important to know that living behind walls isn’t what God desires for us. God’s desire for us is complete freedom; it’s for us to have the ability to live in a city without walls. For us to roam, to grow, and to expand without the threat of fear or suffering. And through Jesus, that’s what He’ll ultimately provide for us one day.

Zechariah 2:5 goes on to say, “‘I [God] will be a wall of fire around her, to protect her,

and to bring glory to that city, I will live there.’”

As much as God already offers us protection, one day, He’ll be our only source of protection. He’ll be all we credit and glorify for our freedom. We’ll live without walls and boundaries because He’ll offer us complete and total protection for eternity.

I’m so thankful for the freedom we celebrate here and now in our country, but I know that the best is still yet to come. That true freedom offers us something incredible to look forward to.

Can you visual a life without any type of walls or borders to protect you? What are some of the things that bring you excitement as you imagine that life to come?

For patience and guidance as you await true freedom.
