The Holy Spirit & Choco Tacos

1 Corinthians 2:14 (easy)

If God’s Spirit is not living inside people, they cannot receive anything from God. They cannot understand what God wants to teach them. They think that it is crazy. They think that it is worth nothing.

I have so many questions about the Holy Spirit. I often find myself wondering if I really have the Spirit with me at all times, and trying to figure out why I can’t always hear from Him. I spend a lot of time trying to really connect with Him and practice His presence. Sometimes, I feel discouraged that I can’t quite make that connection.

But this verse always reassures me of His presence; it’s answers that nagging question about whether or not I really have total access to Him as Jesus promised. Every time I open God’s Word, and a new truth is revealed to me, I know it’s the Spirit working. Every passage of scripture that leaves a mark on my life, I know it’s the Spirit working. Every time my understanding of God’s character grows just a little more, I know that the Spirit is present and working.

This passage tells us that without the Spirit, none of us can understand the teachings from God. So, even the smallest understanding or breakthrough is proof of His presence. I don’t have answers to all of my questions, nor do I have a complete understanding of God or His Word, but I’m slowly learning and stretching in my faith because of the Spirit’s work.

And the Spirit will continue to help us learn. John 14:26 tells us, “But the Father will send the Friend in my name to help you. The Friend is the Holy Spirit. He will teach you all things. He will remind you of everything I have said to you” (NIRV). The things we don’t know and understand now will one day be revealed to us, continuing our growth and shaping us to be more and more like Jesus.

Reflect on any new truths you’ve learned about God, His Word, or yourself that will remind you of the work the Holy Spirit is doing in you. Journal about those and keep them close by, for the times you may experience doubt or frustration.

For a deeper connection with God’s Spirit. Also offer praise for the gift of a Friend that connects your soul to His.
