Strength, Power, and Love & French Toast Sliders

Psalm 62:11-12 (tpt)

God said to me once and for all, “All the strength and power you need flows from me!” And again I heard it clearly said, “All the love you need is found in me!” And it’s true that you repay people for what they do.

Have you ever sat down and truly tried to reflect on where you tend to look for strength and power outside of God? What about where you seek love outside of God? As humans, living in a world full of sin, it’s not a question of if we’ll attempt to find those things in the world, but when.

I’ve never done this before, but after having a particularly challenging week with my faith and feeling like God was a million miles away, this verse jumped off the page at me. So I decided to open up my journal and create two lists. These lists are the places that I tend to look to “replace” my desire to trust God as a source of these things.

Strength and power:
Physical Body
Personal growth

My marriage
Social Media
Buying particular things to “fit in” (trying to earn love/friendship)

Some of the items on these lists are not “bad” in and of themselves, but the idea that I wouldn’t be okay without them, is. I think this verse is a reminder that we’ll all need throughout many times in our lives. When things seem to be crumbling around us, we’re reminded that strength, power, and love found in things and people other than God are fragile at best.

Tragedy can come in the blink of an eye, and if they do, God wants us to know that we’re still whole. Our strength and power isn’t gone with a job loss or a diagnosis. A divorce or lost friendship doesn’t mean we’re unloved. When we feel that way, it’s important to realize that we were simply looking for those things in the wrong places, again. And we can shift our focus back to the real Source of strength, power, and love, who constantly forgives us.

Your turn; where do you tend to look for strength, power, and love outside of God?

For God to open your eyes so that you might see and experience the strength, power, and love you already posses through Him.
