Starting Your Day & Apple Protein Cookies

John 3:30 (ceb)

He must increase and I must decrease.

I used to wake up and dive into work without even thinking about it. My email and social media was open before my feet even hit the ground. It’s easy to do; we live in a constantly moving and changing world, and a lot can happen overnight. But I wasn’t prioritizing my day at all, and I was leaving my devotional/prayer time for the late afternoon, after I spent all day talking to people, facing disappointments and frustrations, fighting with the dogs, spilling yogurt everywhere, running errands; all things that God could have lead me through if I would have allowed Him. Also, just because I work from home doesn’t mean my work isn’t tiring sometimes, and we all know that 3-5 PM feeling of “I’m done with today” all too well. Yet, that’s the time I was giving to God.

Once I committed to starting my day with devotional and prayer time, I noticed a huge difference in my days. Don’t get me wrong, disappointments still happen, dogs still eat furniture and yogurt still spills, but it feels less important than it did before. When I start my day with the reminder that God has already solved my biggest and only real problem for me, it makes everything else a little more manageable. If you have 10 minutes in the morning, I urge you to spend it digging into what God has for you. And if you don’t have 10 minutes? Make it! Get up earlier, spend less time on your makeup, or meal prep on the weekends so you’re stuff is ready; I promise you, it’s worth the schedule adjustment. It will change your life!

When is your usual prayer and devotional time? Do you notice a difference on the days you start with God instead of trying to do it alone?

Ask the Lord to start the day alongside you and to help you face all that’s in store.
