James 1:22 (easy)
But do not only listen to the word of God. Do what it says too. If you do not, you will be making a mistake.
Read
I’ve mentioned this before, but I used to read my designated scripture for the day, close my Bible, and physically check my “God time” off my to-do list. If I’m honest, some days, I still do that. But as believers, it’s our job to be intentional with the Word.
That means not simply skimming it, or just following a reading plan, but also taking the things we learn and letting them impact and change our lives. The Bible isn’t just a collection of stories and information, it’s an instruction manual for finding success, peace, and joy.
Sometimes, the instructions we’re given in the Word seem confusing, or even impossible. Fortunately, there are incredibly easy ways to get started, even if we don’t know exactly how, or what that looks like. Prayer is the best place to start. A lot of people fail to realize that prayer is an action. In fact, praying over the things that you can’t control or don’t understand is the way God wants us to react to His Word.
Wrestling with scripture is another way to “do” something with the Word. God has a specific message for you and for me; every time we open the Bible, God uses it to speak. Seeking to hear and understand what God is saying is doing something. When I’m trying to make sense of a specific verse or understand it’s purpose in my life, I always highlight the words that stand out to me. Then, I break down the meaning of the verse using the SOAP method.
Last, doing what the Word says doesn’t mean we need to do it perfectly. In fact, God knows we won’t. So often, I’m tempted to wait on attempting Biblical instruction until I think I can get it all right. But with that mindset, I’ll spend my entire life waiting to love, waiting to give, and waiting to serve. God’s instruction is the first part of a perfect combination. The second part is grace.
Living like Christ isn’t a switch that gets flipped on. It’s a gradual progression that needs to be practiced and strengthened. It starts when we read the Word and moves to the next stages when we practice it.
Write
Reflect on some of the ideas and scriptures you’ve read over the past few weeks, either in FaithFull Mornings or another Bible Study. Journal about one or two of the things that you think God might be prompting you to put into practice. Think about what’s keeping you from “doing” and write down some action items that you can put into practice this week.
Pray
For God’s leadership and guidance on putting His Word into action.

Tips & Tools
Making these crepes is similar to making an omelette, and the same “rules” apply.
- Use the right pan. A non-stick pan is essential!
- Spray your pan with non-stick cooking spray or grease it with oil/butter – I still do this even with a non-stick pan.
- Make sure your pan has ample time to heat up before you pour your batter in.
- Pay attention to your batter and try to keep it loosened on the bottom of the pan at all times.
