Feeling Forgiven & Buckeye Oat Bars

1 John 1:9 (erv)

But if we confess our sins, God will forgive us. We can trust God to do this. He always does what is right. He will make us clean from all the wrong things we have done.

The Bible tells us over and over again that because of the death of Jesus, we’re forgiven. But one of my greatest struggles is that I don’t feel forgiven. It’s a lie that follows me throughout so many seasons of my life. It often feels like the truth, but it simply isn’t.

I think that one of the reasons I struggle so much with forgiveness is because I can’t wrap my mind around forgiving someone who’s so undeserving, like myself. It’s true that I’m undeserving of forgiveness. But it’s also true what God says about me. He says I’m forgiven anyway.

It’s not up to me; I can’t earn His forgiveness, and I can’t talk Him out of it either. In fact, He made the choice to forgive all of us when He sent Jesus to die for our sins. He didn’t have to do it, He chose to. The next time you feel unforgiveable, try to remember that that’s what’s really true. Everything else – all the nagging thoughts about being unworthy of forgiveness – those are nothing more than lies.

What makes you feel unforgivable? Do you struggle with believing that God is really able to forgive you?

Ask the Lord to remind you of His amazing truth today and to eradicate the lies that have made their way into your thoughts.
