Can I be honest and tell you that most of my favorite Bible verses are really short? When there’s so few words, it seems like the simplicity of the verse is really showcased. Although these 10 words sound simple, most of us know from experience how difficult they can be.

I started thinking about fear when I read this scripture; my reaction to it, the things it causes me to do and say. In those moments, do I run to God? Do I put my trust in Him? More often than not, the answer is no. I know this is something I mention a lot in these devotionals, but I think it’s worth noting that it’s also mentioned a lot in scripture.

Throughout the Bible, God uses the words of people like David, Isaiah, Joshua, and eventually even Jesus to talk about fear. God knows our hearts, and He knows the emotions that we’ll deal with the most, so I don’t think it’s any coincidence that fear is mentioned so frequently in the Word.

The verses that seem slightly repetitive are there intentionally; to remind us of the options we have in those times we experience fear, which is probably more frequently than we’d like. We’re not in alone in that fear or those circumstances, we have somewhere to run and Someone to place our trust in.

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup flour
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 tablespoon unsweetened apple sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon orange extract
  • 1 teaspoon syrup or honey
  • 2 tablespoons unsweetened almond milk
  • 1 tablespoon fresh cranberries
  • non-stick cooking spray

Instructions

  1. Combine egg, almond milk, extract, apple sauce, syrup and mix
  2. Add flour, baking powder, and cranberries to bowl and mix just until combined
  3. Spray a skillet or electric griddle with non-stick cooking spray
  4. Spoon batter into 4-5 small pancakes and cook for 2 minutes
  5. Flip and cook for an additional 2 minutes
