A Seat in the Back & Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Balls

Luke 14:10-11 (erv)

So when someone invites you, go sit in the seat that is not important. Then they will come to you and say, ‘Friend, move up here to this better place!’ What an honor this will be for you in front of all the other guests. Everyone who makes themselves important will be made humble. But everyone who makes themselves humble will be made important.”

Today’s devotional is short and sweet – all about attempting to find honor for ourselves versus letting God run the show and honoring us when the time is right.

When I fight for fame and honor on my own, it’s an uphill battle not worth fighting. It’s for all the wrong reasons; it’s all on my own accord. It’s all about me. When God honors me, it’s easy. He chooses His people; and He often selects the humble.

I’m slowly learning to stop seeking importance and to understand my place on my own. It was never in my job description to be recognized; only to recognize God Himself. When I surrender the desire for success, fame, and recognition, I open up that space that allows God to use me if that’s what He chooses.

Knowing this allows anyone to focus on and work for Jesus, regardless of their class, status, level, or title. Choosing a seat in the back and allowing God to call us forward in His timing is the path to feeling that true freedom that Jesus promised us.

Are you seeking honor, fame, or recognition? Does that desire get in the way of your connection with the Lord, or your ability to humbly seek His will?

For a humble heart.
